in the hands of a lesser director, this film would suck. but a great director can make something seemingly ordinary into something awesome. this is why malick is arguably the greatest (american) director alive (but i think i'd still personally vote for ffc)
i'd probably rank this third among malick films, with days of heaven and thin red line (in that order) ahead of it
